AMB Stuttgart: Precise metalworking solutions

Okuma presents powerful machines for impressive productivity increases

Cologne/Stuttgart, 27 August 2024. Okuma will focus on precision and productivity from 10 to 14 September 2024 at AMB in Stuttgart, the largest international trade fair for the metalworking industry. At booth D71 in Hall 10, the manufacturer will showcase seven various CNC machine tools that offer the ideal solution for every application, from 5-axis to full machining.

One example is the 5-axis vertical machining centre GENOS M460V-5AX. It will be exhibited at the trade fair as a skeleton, allowing visitors an insight view into design details. The machine has a 48-tool magazine as standard and can machine workpieces up to 600 mm in diameter and 400 mm in height at a speed of up to 15,000 rpm. Tool length measurement, breakage detection, chip conveyors, zero point, and workpiece measurement ensure accurate production results every time.

The 5-axis vertical machining centre GENOS M560V-5AX improves on this by offering maximum precision and excellent machining rates, even on larger workpieces. The machine has a small footprint of 2,515 x 3,715 mm and can machine workpieces with a diameter of 700 mm and a height of 500 mm on X/Y/Z axis travels of 1,050/560/460 mm with up to 60 tools. For maximum precision, it features automated 5-axis measurement, a hypoid drive in the rotary and tilting axis, and the “Thermo-Friendly Concept” for temperature compensation.

The LU3000 EX is one of Okuma’s best-selling machines and stands out for its high productivity. This machine takes 4-axis turning to a new level by simultaneously machining in the upper and lower turrets, increasing productivity by up to 170 % compared to a 2-axis lathe. The “Machining Navi” detects vibrations and automatically suppresses them through controlled speed regulation. The result is efficient, accurate operation and process reliability. The potential for automation also improves performance. Combined with the Promro 6-axis industrial robot TA-25, the machine can autonomously load and unload components weighing up to 18 kg. This makes entry into automation extremely simple and efficient, even for small-batch production.

With up to 326 easily interchangeable tools, the MB-4000H enables fast, high-precision machining. The machine on display at AMB has a turn-cut option, which allows different cylindrical, conical and elliptical contours to be machined with a single tool. It is also possible to machine workpieces larger than the diameter of the tool. Another advantage is the innovative chip management system, which uses multiple chip conveyors to maintain consistently high process quality. In addition, the machining centre is equipped as standard with a dual pallet changer, which can be expanded to accommodate up to twelve pallets and has a particularly small footprint.

The advanced 5-axis machining centre MU-6300V is designed for extremely complex workpieces. It offers high travel speeds and machining performance, and its large work area provides flexibility for 5-sided and 5-axis simultaneous machining. The stable portal design, “Thermo-Friendly Concept” and “5-Axis Auto Tuning System” ensure Okuma’s proven dimensional stability and accuracy. The latter includes geometric deviation measurement and compensation. The MU-6300V can also be automated with, for example, a multi-pallet changer.

AMB visitors interested in full machining will also be able to see the MULTUS B300II at the Okuma stand. The two-spindle model specialising in turning, milling and inclined axis machining will be exhibited. Okuma will also be showing another multitasking machining solution, the MULTUS U3000. Simultaneous and synchronised machining is no challenge, thanks to the counter spindle and lower turret. The generous travel paths and powerful spindle drives ensure smooth and process-intensive machining. The optional Sludgeless Tank, developed in-house, also prevents the build-up of dirt in the coolant tank, significantly reducing the need for manual cleaning.

In addition to the hardware, Okuma’s software ensures fast and accurate results. This is why all machines are equipped with the innovative CNC control OSP-P500. It allows even inexperienced users to easily plan, program and execute machining processes. The integrated intelligent features ensure faster cycle times, maximum productivity and accuracy, reduced resource consumption and reliable protection against cyberattacks.
