Grinding

Okuma I.D. and O.D. grinders reflect the design and precision of over 90 years of experience manufacturing grinders and are now equipped with the open-architecture OSP-P300 control. Our wide range of machines serves customers from high production manufacturers to job shops. Okuma is your only single-source, top quality provider for grinder, controls, drives, and spindles.

Okuma CNC grinders – everything build in-house

While many other manufacturers use parts from third-party providers, Okuma builds everything in-house. For example, we produce all spindles in-house to ensure the highest precision and maximum reliability. Our grinders also have machine beds made from cast iron which offers exceptional rigidity. We use hand-scraped and hydrostatic guideways for highest follow-up accuracy and durability. Nowadays, very few manufacturers are able to offer hand-scraped surfaces.

Industrial grinders – from aerospace industry, to the automotive sector and general machining

Our grinders are used in many areas like the aerospace industry, the automotive sector and in general machining. They produce hydraulic parts, guide rollers, turbo chargers, coupling gears and many more. Okuma grinders are also used for processing difficult-to-machine materials like titanium, Inconel, tungsten or carbide where the material would be too hard for turning or milling. There are future technologies where our grinders can play an important role – electric cars for instance.

Digitalisation solutions for CNC grinders

We see ourselves as pioneers in the metalworking industry. Okuma grinders come with a special control developed in-house. It offers a number of apps and features that optimise and facilitate grinding. The dressing app, for example, calculates the best dressing parameters. Our grinders also have an NC tailstock which allows for flexible production, reduced set-up times and shortened cycle times. We offer an auto taper compensation which adjusts the cylindricity during the grinding process automatically.

High return on investment (ROI) for manufacturers with Okuma grinding machines

Okuma machines are known for their very long life period. We achieve this by using parts that were specially adapted to the requirements of the grinding process like special guideways or wipers. These elements are built very robustly and protected by special covers. The harmony of mechanical parts and electronics contributes to this. As a result, the machines offer a very low error-proneness and significantly reduced downtimes.

High accuracy grinders

The outstanding accuracy of our grinders is the result of multiple technologies. For example, nearly all Okuma machine tools come equipped with the Thermo-Friendly Concept which combines control technology and machine design to minimise the negative effects of temperature changes. Our machines’ high-rigid design further increases accuracy. The measuring technology we use is state-of-the-art as well like our in-house developed high-resolution encoders. Our grinders also automatically adjust the coolant temperature for optimal coolant usage and manufacturing quality.
