“3D Direct” from Okuma Europe: Guided 3D programming directly at the OSP control
Krefeld/Stuttgart, 25 August 2026. How can complex 3D machining operations be set up as reliably and user friendly as possible? Okuma Europe now provides the answer with “3D Direct”. The new solution enables 3D shopfloor programming directly at the OSP control and guides operators step by step towards the optimum machining strategy.
Interested visitors can test the application at AMB in Stuttgart from 15th to 19th September 2026, in Hall 10, Booth E71.
Workflows with “3D Direct” are faster, easier and more user friendly than conventional programming. The 3D model is imported into and processed by the OSP control as a STEP file. The system then automatically identifies relevant machining features and highlights machinable areas of the geometry on the machine screen. Operators can link geometries, select suitable tools and adjust machining parameters as required. The system suggests suitable machining strategies and enables simulation directly at the machine. All process steps are completed within a continuous workflow. Once the operator has completed all steps, including an automatic collision checking, they can release the program and start machining.
Suitable for Beginners
Thanks to its continuous, guided workflow and visual presentation, “3D Direct” enables even less experienced operators to create programs. It requires fewer manual inputs and automatically establishes the relationship between geometry, machining strategy and verification. This provides greater confidence and reduces errors.
Further benefits for companies are greater independence from specialised personnel and increased order potential, particularly when handling a high variety of variants or small batch sizes. Completed machining operations can also be replicated, helping to maintain consistently high quality.
Premiere at AMB 2026
“3D Direct” will initially be available for vertical machining centres from April 2027. The application supports operations including face milling, pocket machining, drilling, slotting and edge machining. In future also further machine types will be added.
