Okuma Europe Headquarters in Krefeld, Germany

Acquisition of Hommel CNC Technik GmbH

Okuma Europe GmbH and Hommel CNC Technik GmbH have signed a purchase agreement to acquire 100 percent of the shares in Hommel CNC Technik GmbH. The purchase of the long-time German distributor enables Okuma to strategically expand its comprehensive support and service portfolio and strengthen its position in the largest European market for machine tools. Okuma customers in Germany benefit from direct access to Okuma, its products and services.

The purchase contract was signed on 5 July 2019. Subject to antitrust approval, Hommel CNC Technik GmbH (HCT) will become a full subsidiary of Okuma Europe GmbH with effect from 1 September 2019. The current HCT headquarters in Cologne will serve as the headquarters for the restructured sales and service activities in Germany. The HCT showrooms in Langenau and Possendorf will continue to display the latest products and technologies of Okuma's growing portfolio.

"We take Open Possibilities literally"

“This acquisition will help us to meet our German customers’ requirements even better than ever before. By streamlining our entire distribution and service process, we are offering them direct access to Okuma, our technologies and our expertise,” says Takeshi Yamamoto, CEO Okuma Europe GmbH. “Germany is the largest machine tool market in Europe. Integrating and expanding our extensive sales and service network will allow us to directly provide excellent before and after sales support locally. We are sure that this will literally “Open Possibilities” for our German customers and serve to maximise their throughput.”

Years of service and sales expertise

As part of Hommel GmbH, Hommel CNC Technik had been the exclusive sales partner for Okuma machines in Germany for more than 40 years. During this time, the company has distributed and maintained more than 7,500 Okuma machine tools in Germany. With the purchase, Okuma Europe GmbH has taken over the entire HCT workforce of more than 100 employees.
