The OSP-P300 - An Overview
If you have ever wished for a CNC control that comes close to reading the operator’s mind, you should give the new OSP-P300 a try. With its transformation from a mode-based to a process-based intuitive interface, Okuma’s P300 is a dramatic change from the old functional layout. It is a change for the better, with a new feature that combines functions into one “EASY OPERATION” run screen.
In older mode-based controls, the user is required to move from screen to screen to input settings, which is a time-consuming and repetitive process. For example, users must go to the Zero page to set the zeros, then switch to the Parameters page to set parameters, and so on. With the P300, instead of back-and-forthing through five or six screens, you now have one EASY OPERATION interface, which centralises data all in one place. The P300 creates additional efficiency with its new shared database, which shares data inputs across operations. Data that is input in one area of the control is automatically shared in other areas. With these new functionalities, redundancy of CNC control operations is greatly reduced, therefore reducing setup times. And, by allowing operators to be operators rather than spending time on programming, time resources are applied “where the money is” - in making parts.
The P300 is built using the Windows®-based, open architecture platform used in all OSP CNC controls. This fully open system makes it possible to easily install PC applications that allow for myriad conveniences right at the CNC machine location. Imagine handy access to tooling lists/setup spreadsheets, process documents, and how-to videos that assist operators in setup and operation. You can plug-and-play a USB calliper or micrometer to measure parts and electronically capture statistical process control data right on the CNC control - no paper, no mistaken readings. The P300’s standard PC-compatible Ethernet and multiple USB ports allow for easy integration between the factory floor and business communications channels. Remote access to machine alarms can be easily set up to deliver an immediate email alert to your mobile phone.
The P300’s open and fluid platform allows you to take advantage of new capabilities as they become available, without a costly CNC control overhaul. This provides a platform for customisation and ongoing upgrades, empowering users to adopt the latest functionality as it becomes available. With an open door for continuous process improvement, lifetime return on investment is greatly increased.
